Jay And Short Game Competition

Date:  Mar 22, 2015

There is only one medal for this short game competition.

Jay is the one of the youngest in his class.  The rest I think is P4-P6.

DSC00185

So far he has yet to get any medal this year.  The older kids are definitely much better golfer than him.  But he enjoys it.

DSC00175

Today competition is to hit putting into the hole from all direction (with slopes) and score points.

Not so hard, not so easy either.  The kids needs to learn how to read the green, read the slope and putt so that it goes into the hole.

This is one of the hole that made him proud.  He is the only kid who get the ball in twice in the long putt.  The rest did not get it in.

He still learning how to read the green, so, some holes he is in trouble.

DSC00215

Chip and run.  Not too bad.  And he scores.

He learned the technique and applied it in his golf game.

He has some problem in the sand bunker shots.  He did not score well there.

DSC00237

I think he placed his ball too far right.  That is why the swing did not catch much sands and the ball flies up high.

Jay likes golf a lot.  Kay expressed his interest in golf too.  So, it will be very happy for us if the whole family can go to Golf Vacation trip together when they gets older.

Next week is a big day for Jay.  he is going to take part in his first every Golf Game Competition.  It will be the monthly Junior Medal game competition with his peers.  Let’s see how it goes.  Anything can happen on the golf course.  HaHaHaHa.  Good luck Jay.

Its Good To Be Healthy Again

Date:  Mar 31, 2015

Oh boy, it is good to be healthy again.

My Coughing

Last month, I have been non-stop coughing.

The flames is sometimes yellow, sometimes white, sometimes green.

It feels like infections.

It feels like hundred days coughing.

It feels like sore throats.

Nothing Works!

The coughing is so terrible that at night I would wake up at least 3-5 times.

Could not sleep as I cough violently.

The next day my throat will be dried and itchy.

So, the doctor gave me antibiotics.  And it does not work.  In fact, I feel weaker.

Then, I take the cough syrups.  It does not work.

Then, I try the acupuncture for the first time of my life.

And take the Chinese medicine.  Some cough syrups.

Then, I felt so heaty in my body, and my eyes becomes very red.  And it feels like they want to pop out like that.

IMG 0107

I went the next day and the sensei recommend another acupuncture treatment.  And he advise me that instead of drinking 30ml of the cough medicine, drink 15ml instead.

Well, the next day, after acupuncture I feel great.  But my eyes still full of blood vessels.  It is totally red.

So, I decided to throw away the cough medicine.  I think it makes me too heaty.

What Works?

I tried drinking manuka honey.  It does not solve my sore throat.

I tried drinking Liang-Teh, and it does not help.

I tried ???????? and it does not work too.

I tried Panadol Cold tablet, and it does not work.

I don’t think I have flu, but I feel like a lot of flames.

My flames is white at night, but in the morning, it turn yellow but not green.

Then, I figured out what went wrong.

My cough was a Cold Cough, but my sore throat is heaty.  So, if I take too heaty medicine and it will worsen my throat, and when throat gets itchy, I cough too.

Then, my friend Benney suggest me to buy medicine from Eu-Yan-Seng.  He said it works for him.

And I must say, that is the medicine I shall take in future to cure my cough.  It works!

Eu-Yan-Seng

When I walked into the Chinese medicine shop.  The sales man speak to me.

What is my symptoms?

“Is the flame white, yellow or green?"

I told him at night, I would cough very violently, and my flames is mostly white color.

I also told him, but when I wake up in the morning, the flames becomes concentrated and turn a little bit yellowish.

I told him I could not sleep because of this cough.

I usually wakes up 3-5 times from 12 mid night to 6am.

And that is when he recommend me these off the shelves medicine.

1.  The Hot Cough remedy.  Take one in the morning for two days.

IMG 9563

2.  At night, take the Cold Cough remedy.  Before sleep. For two days.

IMG 9564

3.  On the third day, the cough should have become better.  Then, take a mild hot cough in the morning and a mild cold cough in the night.

And he says that should do it.

IMG 9566

Take a look at the packaging.  This is the Hot cough package.

IMG 9561

Seems to have some super Chinese ingredients in there.  No chemical.

IMG 9562

Now.  Here is what happen.

a.  The first night, after I took the cold cough remedy.  I feel much better.  I don’t cough much.  My flames magically gone.

b.  The next day, I still got some yellowish flames.  And the hot cough remedy immediately cure it.  And my throats are much smoothen.

c.  By the time I took the two days hot and cold cough remedy, I feel I already 85% recover.

d.  I can sleep thru the night on the 2nd day.  First night, I still awake I think 2 times.  Instead of 3-5 times.

e.  And the third day, I was off to Melaka to take part in a two days golf events.

So, as soon as I come back from Melaka, I went to buy a few more bottles.  Just to make sure I can be 99% recovered.

So, this is what I take from right to left for 5-6 days.  And I feel so good after I had these medicines.

IMG 0195

The Hot and Cold Cough does not come cheap at all.  I was a bit surprise to see the price tag.  It is around $25 per bottle.  The Mild one is between $5-$8 I think.

I am so glad that I took the Eu-Yan-Seng special cough medicine and it cure me in time for the two days golf event and the following Carrier World trip in Bangkok.  Otherwise, I won’t be fit to play golf for the trips.

Also, one important thing.

You have to watch what you eat.  ??.

a.  No cold drinks.

b.  No Tea.  Coffee OK.  But hot ones.

c.  No chilli or spicy food or curry.

d.  No fried stuffs.

As long as you can follow these, and take the medicine, you can recover very fast.

Aquaponics The Bacteria

Intro

You can have an aquarium, and your fish will make waste.  You can have a hydroponics garden, and your plants will need food.   The thing that connects [fish waste] to [plant food] is the bacteria.  Things that kill bacteria will kill your aquaponics (AP) system because bacteria will not remove waste, waste will accumulate, fish will die.  Current agricultural systems NEED bacteria to operate...WITHOUT fish.

Actually, fish harvesting is the "perk" of an AP system.  Im tired of people implying an endless supply of fish protein from AP systems.  It takes a YEAR to harvest a good-sized fish, so how long do you think an average annual fish harvest will last you?  Im guessing 2 months (tops) depending on family size.  This assumption is with shrink wrap, freezing, and forgoing a celebratory fish fry.  The REAL benefit is from the fish waste, which will power your garden.

                   [bacteria]                      [sun]
Fish waste >>>>>>>>plant food >>>>>>> YOUR  food

How do the Bacteria Make it Happen?
Answer:  You feed them the right food.  When ammonia is abundant, a strain that uses ammonia as food will proliferate.  Other strains will be crowded out and subside.  The first step is the conversion of ammonia from the fish into nitrates.  The reaction is catylized by two strains (nitrosomas and nitrobacter).  The nitrosomas net reaction is as follows:

[ammonia]       [oxygen]         [nitrite ion]      [proton (acid)]
    NH3        +        O2        ?        NO?
2
        +        3H+        +        2e?

The next step is the conversion of nitrite to nitrate, the fish food, by bacterial strains known as nitrobacter.  The reaction is as as follows:

[nitrite ion]         [water]             [nitrate ion (plant food)]          [proton (acid)]
             NO?
2
        + ?      H2O     ?                       NO?
3
                  +          2  H+             +        2e?

What do you notice?   If you said "every 1 nitrate produced ALSO produces 5 H+s"...you are  correct.  So what in the hell are H+s?  Why are they acids?  Well cover that in the next post.

Kay Kay First Badminton Class

Date:  March 21, 2015

Kay Kay last week attended one of the “badminton play date” session with his brother Jay, together with Gwen and Colette and Ashlyn.

We have to thank Colette’s mommy, another sport enthusiast who book the court and drive the kids.

Gwen’s daddy is a badminton enthusiast.  He macam like play badminton 5 days a week like that.

But Gwen’s daddy is good.  He knows how to play and train the kids.

Here, he is training Kay Kay and Colette.  Both kids sure have fun!

This is probably the first time Kay Kay playing badminton “seriously”.  Uncle Rusdi says he has “ball sense”.

So, what happen next is Kay Kay comes to mommy again and requested to join his brother Jay Jay in the badminton school.

So, early in the morning, we fill in the application forms, and prepare the cheques and we enrol him into Singapore Badminton School.  I asked the coach weather a K2 (6 years old) can be in the class.  The coach says as long as he got the heights he can play.  So, today is Kay Kay first lesson taking badminton class.

Here the two young coaches trying to get him up to speed holding the badminton racquet the correct way, etc.

IMG 9645

I sat at the far end and watch how he learned.  And I must say, he is different from Jay Jay.  He really has that “serious face” of learning.  And he is very focus.

IMG 9648

Kay learning the foot works.  Got a bit confuse of the direction.  But this is his mommy fault.  I think Kay Kay by nature is left hander.  But his mommy was forcing him to use right hand all the time.  So, that is why I watch his stance, naturally he will do a certain action and then, feel awkward to continue the rest as it is not nature.  But let’s see how it goes.

Learning how to hit the shuttle.

Here, he puts what he learned into action.

Now the forehand.  His forehand is quite ok.  That is why the coach ask other kids to look at him, as he can hit back the shuttle almost every time.

I guess this is his ball sense.  For this, he is much better than his brother.  The brother Jay has to work very extra hard to build the ball sense.  For Kay, it seems natural.

After the lesson, he wants some more practise.

IMG 9745

This is Jay Jay’s lesson with the coach.  I can see after 2 years of efforts he can hit the shuttle quite confidently already.  This is good fitness for Jay Jay.  :)
